Vodacom4me (My Vodacom) SMS from PC & mobile

Update: Free082SMS now sends SMS through the new My Vodacom portal at www.vodacom.co.za

Vodacom is the most generous mobile carrier in SA when it comes to free text messages - they allow subscribers to send up to 20 free SMS every day from the Vodacom portal website - Vodacom4me.co.za (or now the newer "My Vodacom"). However, this feature is only available from desktop computers and mobile users are directed to a stripped down version of Vodacom4me / My Vodacom that excludes free SMS.

But you can send Vodacom4me SMS from your mobile phone. Free082SMS provides A mobile interface to the Vodacom SMS website and email to Vodacom SMS so you can send free messages on the go! The site is built around a simple text based structure for optimal performance on most web enabled phones and it works great on PCs too! Send Free Vodacom SMS now!

You can also use Free082SMS to send free international SMS to Vodacom users who are roaming in other countries! Enable Vodacom SMS roaming by SMSing 'roamon' to 123 before you leave SA. You'll need to SMS 'roamoff' to 123 when you get back to reactivate cheaper local rates and regain access to advanced network features like voice, GPRS, MMS etc.

HELLOO !!!!!!!

THIS NEW 'FORMAT' OF SENDING VODACOM4ME SMSes IS GROSSLY LOUZY & UNNECESSARILY COMPLICATED !!!!!!
THE 'OLD' BLUE-SHADED LOGIN FORMAT WAS VERY SIMPLE AND ENJOYABLE ... AND ENCOURAGING ONE TO STAY WITH VODACOM. NOW I JUST WANNA LEAVGE VODACOM BECAUSE OF THIS MESSY VODACOM4ME FREE082SMS. HEEEEELLLLLPPPPP !

Just to clarify that Free082SMS is not Vodacom. Free082SMS is an independent website that lets you send free vodacom sms from your mobile phone. You can find the official Vodacom website at http://www.vodacom.co.za

Hie.I love vodacom free smses. Don't you guys think it will be helpful if the page can show me how man characters were in my message just like it use to be before. This will help me know if my whole message was delivered.

rich said...

Thanks for the feedback anonymous. Free082SMS is designed for mobile phones and not all mobile phones support the character count that is shown at vodacom.co.za. But we may integrate it into the desktop version of Free082SMS as well. Thanks for the tip!

Good morning, well done on coming up with the site.It indeed helps one in sending smss without having 2go thro all those steps utilising the vodacom website.I would like to know if you cannot add a feature which enables one 2c d number of characters, the sms used as is the case whilst one uses the vodacom website for sending smss.Keep it up.Have u got similar things 4mtn n cellc?Regards,JS Maluleke.

rich said...

Thanks for the feedback Jerry. It seems there are a few people interested in a character count feature - We'll see what we can do to include one soon! We'll look in to MTN and CellC as well...

rich said...

Some of you will be glad to see that we have included a character/sms count in the top right of the desktop version of the site (It's javascript so won't work on most mobile phones). You can now also see how many SMS you have remaining on the sent items page. Enjoy!

I could not view my sent items, neither could i see if the message was sent.

Free082SMS relies on the vodacom.co.za website so there can sometimes be some bumps, depending on how healthy the vodacom site is at a point in time. Sometimes you just need to try again. Also make sure that your username and password works on vodacom.co.za and reset it if necessary :)

Having read the previous comments, i have two things to say. For the free sms's, it's awesome and such a life-saver. Can't say there's no need for airtime anymore, but this is a great sustainable substitute, so thatnk you. Secondly, to Rich, for your professional, helpful, courteous and consistent assistance, I pray the good Lord increases in your life daily, as you do into the lives of those you help.

Thanks for the kind words :)

OMG! Thanx 4 dis awesome service, much appreciated. I want 2 know how do I delete my sent messages though?

rich said...

Sent items can be deleted by logging in to vodacom.co.za directly from a PC - This feature is currently not available from the Free082SMS website, Sorry.

Thank's for the great service, the only problem we have is that the recipients does not always receive the full text but it has shown that the text has been sent. It is not that the free sms'es are all used up or the recipients message box is full which gets deleted on a daily basis, as I know that usually would be the reason why.
Can you advise?

rich said...

Thanks for the feedback. Free082SMS relies on the Vodacom website - The "sent" status is reported directly from vodacom.co.za. I know that Vodacom is busy ironing out issues on vodacom.co.za, so hopefully reliability will continue with time... Or perhaps Vodacom will introduce a "Delivered" status to vodacom.co.za like they used to have on the old Vodacom4me website. But basically SMS delivery is in Vodacom's hands...

I have a question...is there something wrong with vodacom sms delivery? as i have been receiveing old sms from a friend along with the new ones she sends. Its a jumble of words & its impossible for her have mistakenly sent an old msg cos she deletes them right after she sends them. this is disconcerting as it has happened far too frequently and only with her no....pls help
thanks

rich said...

Hi Jacqui - no problems with Vodacom SMS that I am aware of? But I do not represent Vodacom, so I can't really comment for them. Has your friend been sending SMS from the vodacom.co.za website or just from her phone? Take it up with Vodacom customer care on 111 or @vodacom111 on Twitter. I hope you manage to resolve it soon.
